You will need to read through each form in its entirety and type in your information where applicable. If there is a section that does not apply to you, do not mark it as ‘not applicable’ or ‘n/a.’
Complete these forms on the computer, typing in your information, and save them to your own computer or a memory stick when you’re finished. Print them off on plain, white, letter-sized (8.5” x 11”) paper. Do not double-side the pages. You must bring the printed copies of your forms into the appropriate court for filing – you cannot submit your forms online.
You will usually need to file several copies of each of your forms. Check with court staff to see how many copies they require you to file. If you photocopy your forms at the court, there may be a fee for this. Do not double-side your copies.
Most divorce forms are provided in both interactive PDF and Word formats. You can use whichever format you prefer.
For Word documents:
Open the document in Word or other word processing program. Fill in all required information. Make sure you save your work to your hard drive or a memory stick. Where you see instructions in square brackets (like this: [name]), delete the instructions and brackets, and replace them with the required information. Where you see wording in italics in round brackets (like this: (The petitioner/The respondent)) this indicates a wording choice. Choose the appropriate option, and delete the other one. Make sure you also delete the brackets and take off the italics.
For interactive PDF documents:
Open the document in Adobe Acrobat or another viewing program and download a copy to your computer. Fill in all required information. Make sure you save your work on your computer or a memory stick.
The interactive online forms have bubble-help text that will guide you through the forms, and let you know what information is required. To find the bubble-text, hover your computer mouse over any coloured lines or check-boxes (these may be blue or yellow, depending on your computer) and the information applicable to that line or check-box should pop-up in a small square. These squares will not appear on your printed forms.
